    If we're really concerned about coming up with optimum solutions and keeping the Pols honest we'd be talking about a multiparty system. Two parties are certainly better than a single party but in a society where wealth translates to political power such a duopoly is easily controlled by the plutocracy.

    Moreover, in a country as diverse as the US, the idea that there are only two sides to issues of public policy is self evident nonsense. Real social political consensus can only be achieved when all sectors of society have autonomous political representation. True democracy can only exist when every section of society can have its say without having to kiss the ring of an economic elite.

    Nothing human is alien to me.
