  •  So.. what would you do to the 5-10 major (0+ / 0-)

    shareholders in this case?

Force them to stay open? Fine them? (on what grounds?)

While the actions of many corporate overlords can be described as "criminal", no actual crime is being committed.

    •  Ought to make them at least shut down properly... (4+ / 0-)

There are literally trainloads of ingredients en route to now closed Hostess bakeries. Several grocers rely on Hostess for their best selling private label breads and are now scrambling to find bread. Bakeries like Waterloo that weren't even shut down by the strike with customers waiting for deliveries were shut down by Hostess insane management.

    •  Exactly, that is why the law needs to be changed. (3+ / 0-)

The asshole corporate people always respond to criticism of their horrible ethics by saying "It is all perfectly legal"

That's what the scumbag insurance companies do when they allow people to die.

That's what the banks do when they invest their customers money in something they know will fail and then bet against it.

That's what insurance companies do when they hold fallen soldiers SGLI money to earn interest on it instead of paying it all out to the fallen soldiers' families.

You want to defend their unethical acts by saying they are legal, I want to make them illegal.

instead of abandoned. As a result several mines and taconite plants have been able to reopen when market conditions improved. We need a law like that to apply to all businesses.

corporations to be explicitly spelled out. Beyond just being beholden to the shareholders they must also meet civic responsibilities, including environmental. However, they also must have some responsibility for their products and their customers. I don't understand how it is healthy for this country to allow corporate boards to purposely run a company to bankruptcy just for their personal greed.
