One of my neighbors is waiting to receive the money from a life insurance policy on her husband who recently died and it seems to be taking a long time. Her husband died at the end of August and she still hasn't received a check.

Her husband was an employee of Hostess for decades and he had this life insurance policy and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the delay has something to do with the bankruptcy.

Do you suppose that the policy might be linked to Hostess in some way?

There are a bunch of different insurance programs, some run by the unions which will largely survive and the company's plans that are already crashing.

that my friend's wife might not be able to collect on his policy? That would be an unmitigated disaster.

The life insurance is probably through a life insurance company, but with no one home in Hostess Brand's personnel department everything like this may be delayed. On the other hand, my pension through a joint Teamster-Company plan should be safe, though I suspect their office will be swamped with older laid off Hostess workers applying for retirement for the next few months.

My neighbor said that's what he did for the company.

We drove the big semi-trucks that moved the baked goods from bakery to depot to transfer to the smaller route trucks. Sometimes delivered to big supermarkets too... management liked that but the smaller route trucks worked better.

              •  I think my friend (0+ / 0-)

had one of the smaller routes. He was a really nice guy and I hope that things work out ok and soon because his wife is having a hard time financially and really needs the life insurance money.

                Good luck to you too.
