  •  This is the impeachment run-up (20+ / 0-)

Since they couldn't stop the Democratic President from winning a second term, they are going to tie him up in impeachment hearings over a fictitious , trumped-up "scandal." We've seen this play before. It worked so well for them when they used it to paralyze much of Bill Clinton's second term.

The Republican owners have a few techniques that they have perfected and used repeatedly: manipulated, hyper-patriotic "news"; promising lower taxes; starting wars and foreign conflicts; filibustering Democratic legislation that manages to make it out of  partisan-voting committees; throwing huge sums of money into negative and completely bogus ads.

Their last technique is used as a stop-gap if all else fails. It's the "impeachment bomb." Benghazi is being set up as the pretext for impeachment hearings. And here I was thinking that it was going to be attacks on Obama for having been born in Kenya!

They say "cut back" - we say "fight back"!

    •  No one slowed down Clinton's 2nd term (6+ / 0-)

The impeachment was a fine distraction for the utter screwing the American people got with the financial "reforms" that were put in place.  MUCH easier to talk about blow jobs and affairs than the removal of all rules on the financial sector.

    •  President Obama knows how to fight better than (7+ / 0-)

Clinton. They won't have an easy path this time, even if they didn't win.

President has his base too and soon respectable Republicans will defend this president if those yahoos in congress keep taking their party over the cliff.

        the GOP is.

What is underreported is how different the Democratic party is. The current Democratic White House occupant has not and will not be swiftboated, regardless of the many attempts.

nstead of having a single pointperson (Karl Rove) in the White House dedicated to endless campaigning, the current White House has Organizing for America in 50 states, stays in operation all year long and has been doing so ever since 2008.

In the old days there was no coordinated to push back to Drudge's breathless reports on Monica Lewinsky. Now there's us, there's Twitter, there's MSNBC and a post-Swiftboat White House that treats rapid response seriously.

From the passage of healthcare reform being upheld by the Supreme Court, to Wall Street reform, to passage of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, to the fizzle of Solyndra and Fast & Furious, the Republicans have a lot more failures and losses than they want to admit to.

They pushed Benghazi as a scandal prior to Election Day and hoped it would be their October Surprise but that tactic and their candidate were rejected by voters on November 6.

The GOP's problem is they're using tired 20th century tactics on a 21st century President and electorate.

        May they never learn.

    •  and again, it will fail (14+ / 0-)

      Do these people never learn?

This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

Where was all this fake outrage for the dozen attacks on embassies and consulates under Bush?

Diplomatic missions come under attack in volatile countries? Who knew? Blaming Bush for that would have been stupid (other than recognition of easily predicted blowback from disastrous foreign policy). It's been happening for decades.

Then there was not even TRYING to avert the amply warned-about attack on US soil, in light of which, it takes brass to blame Obama for Benghazi.

Tying up the government with this crap is craven.

would go ballistic if they tried that on Obama.  While the wingnuts believe him of terrible intentions, there's not a shred of evidence he's done ANYTHING wrong or illegal.  With Bill they at least had an affair in the Oval Office to go after him with.  What high crime and misdemeanor would they charge Obama with?  Lying about his birth certificate?  Hahaha.  Even with Benghazi, all they really have is alleged incompetence and a rumored coverup which has zero basis to it.  Even if the worst was true in what they're alleging, it falls way below the high crimes and misdemeanor threshold and deals only with character and bending the truth.  For that bar they'd have to have indicted every Republican President since Eisenhower.
