The public is accustomed to officials and investigators being restrained with information when there is an investigation ongoing.  Certainly the White House could address the matter, express their grief and determination to find answers to everyone's questions, but also state that while the investigation is in progress it would be imprudent to speculate as to the motive or identity of the perpetrators.  Frankly, all of the speculation that went on is what gave significant fuel to the conspiracy theorists.  There are good reasons for playing it close to the vest during an investigation and I hope the White House is, in hindsight, seeing the logic of such an approach the next time some crazy shit goes down.  Less is more.
