are those that could afford it, but choose not too, but do not make enough to be subjected to the mandate (roughly those earning between 15k and 60k)

95% of all life forms that once existed on earth are now extinct. It is only a matter of time until the Republicans follow suit.

    •  Nope. Medicaid not expanded. (1+ / 0-)

The Supreme Court's Obamacare decision made the law's Medicaid expansion optional, not mandatory. The usual-suspect GOP governors and legislatures will decide not to expand it. This means middle-class folks will get a healthcare subsidy but poorer folks (who don't qualify for pre-existing Medicaid) don't.

I.e., in my state (Georgia) and a number of others, the only way for a poor adult to get Medicaid is to be either (a) elderly, (b) disabled, or (c) a custodial parent of minor children. If you're just a nothing-special adult with no minor kids, in these states you can't get Medicaid no matter how poor you are.

      What's coming is:

      1. (Fairly obvious)--a state-by-state fight over Medicaid expansion.

      2. (I predict)--an Equal Protection lawsuit against the non-Medicaid-expanding states and the US government, alleging that it's irrational to deny a subsidy to poorer people that's given to better-off people. This could result in the subsidy being extended to all not covered by Medicaid...or it could result in all of Obamacare being struck down.

There are more of us than our election results show, or everyone in Decatur is on Kos....

        •  I used to live in Decatur. (0+ / 0-)

Moved to Cobb in '93 to be nearer my wife's family.

          I still miss Decatur.
