    there wasn't  24 hour news coverage back then. You would read it in the paper or hear it on the evening news, but that was about it.  Today, you would have CSPAN showing the Republicans reading Atlas Shrugged to an empty house. You would have news outlets showing live feed of the senators talking and talking and talking about nothing. I'm guessing that MSNBC would have a little picture-in-picture feed during all their political programing. I can see David Letterman frequently cutting to the Senate floor during his show to see who was talking and what they were saying. They can blather for days, but this time the whole world will actually be watching them do it.

      if people see it happening they may actually undertand that it is the GOP causing the gridlock.  It is too easy now for the media just to say congress is doing nothing without an explanation that it is only one side that is the problem.
