It was done and he didn't try very hard to free them up, but I don't know that he was the one who directed that they be kept away. It's just that the cameras were off the committee's work at that time and mccain loses interest once the cameras are off.  The fact that he did start the ball rolling against abramoff with some pretty juicy stuff leads me to think it was someone else. I say this with a healthy disdain of john mccain and most of what he's done since he entered the senate.

Wish dengre was still around to refresh our memories on that.  No one did better work with regard to anything abramoff related than he did.

McCain had control of the results of his committees long investigation. But when it turned out a lot of Republicans were involved with Abramhoff up to their necks (and probably a few democrats too) he refused to release the report. He then put the reams of evidence into the Library of Congress with instructions they can't be opened for a long period of time... I can't remember just how long but it's decades.

I remember this because I worked for my tribal government then and we wanted to see just who the perpetrators were and couldn't find out.

America could have chosen to be the worlds doctor, or grocer. We choose instead to be her policeman. pity
