  •  Here's my tale of the ridiculous (18+ / 0-)

Back when I was in college and I had to be hospitalized for a suicide attempt where I had a couple of expensive procedures as treatment, on the day I was released I went home with a friend to stay for a couple of days.  The hospital was already preparing my bill (I had the student health care coverage at the time, so there was an insurance plan and they sent the bill directly to them since it was on campus).  Two days later I was on my feet enough to go home, so I went home and both the bill and the notice from the insurance company were in my mailbox. The hospital bill had the bulk of my charges covered by insurance, I had only a $50 deductible (it was a LONG time ago).  The insurance company had denied the entire claim because all of the treatments were necessary because of a suicide attempt, which they didn't cover, so I came home from the hospital after having stuck my head in the oven (metaphorically speaking here), only to find that I had a bill of over $1000 to pay from sticking my head in the oven.  It was enough to drive someone to stick her head back in the oven.  Seriously dangerous stuff to send to someone who's already emotionally unstable.

I thought, why did they even bother to revive me?
