    •  Yes, I am tired of the "we need to fix entitlmnts" (0+ / 0-)

I have been astonished by the number of Dems that, even after the election have been quoted as stating that, though they are committed to saving middle class tax cuts and allowing the $250K(+) tax cuts to expire - - they also want to "do something about entitlement reform."

What you mean, sir/maam Sen. Dem is that you are committed to fixing the DEFICIT - but not at the expense of Medicare, Social Security. . .

I am tired of them playing into Republican hands by using THEIR vocabulary.  The deficit may be a problem (Krugman isn't convinced it is, yet) but stop using Medicare and Social Security to "fix it."  When people hear "entitlement" it is a nebulus enough sounding word that even I don't respond as I should.  When people hear "cutting Social Security and Medicare so we can reduce the deficit without raising tax rates on the rich another few percentage points" well, then they get their backs up.

One last point brought up by the diarist that I had not appreciated.  Obama would be right, as the diarist notes, to really hold this to the Repugs teeth and feel no rush to settle this until the new, more dem congress gets in.

Blessed are the peacemakers, the poor, the meek and the sick. Message to Repug Fundies: "DO you really wonder "what would Jesus do?" I didn't think so.
