  •  Exactly, at least once a week I am guilty of going (7+ / 0-)

into a nearby town without firing my shotgun into the air (I don't have any guns) before entering.  Guess how many people obey that law (hint: zero)?

a shotgun in the air before entering a town?!?!  That's gotta be one of the dumbest laws in the history of the world.

      •  Yes, it dates back to the very olden days but (0+ / 0-)

apparently was never actually removed from the books.  You know, back when a "town" was a couple of trading posts and a sheriff's office.  While it has almost certainly been nullified by state laws (such as unlawful discharge) it is still in the law books and you can still theoretically be arrested for not doing so and have to spend a bunch of money in court defending yourself.

There are also many towns where you must give the town sheriff 24 hours notice before driving on the town square (you know, so they can clear it of horses).
