For crying out loud, wtf happened to my tree???

    •  LOL (12+ / 0-)

you know, i usually only spot the sapsucker under the shadowy pear tree... as it creeps along the trunk making holes in it.  This is the first time I saw it in all his glory in the sun.  That belly really IS yellow!!!  LOL  practically glows.  :D

    •  Hey Stix, I will be royally PO'd at your county (9+ / 0-)

since they are doing the full early ballot recount this morning and somehow Mr.West takes the lead....GRRRR. And why is your SOE in the hospital?

      •  It's a mess (8+ / 0-)

but I hope it will be okay in the end. I'm biased, but the trouble initially started election night when the memory cartridges the state provided malfunctioned counting the early ballots.

I don't care if there is a recount but I would prefer a hand count and not use memory cartridges at all to determine totals.

SoE sees her career going down the drain over tea-bagger outrage. I would guess she had a panic attack and thought she was having a heart attack.

        •  Hopefuly all works out. (7+ / 0-)

I wondered if the SOE was in a panic mode...sad for her, this state really needs to get its act together for elections..

          •  JS - how is your... (7+ / 0-)

SIL doing?  Now she has to deal with the raw sewage issue!!!  But at least she can take the train to Lynbrook now (where the Long Beach line is picking up the Babylon line for further points westward).

It's odd - going to work.  Everything hustle bustle in the city.  Business as usual, etc... then today went on usual errands.  Stores in Oceanside slowly opening - others being gutted because of floods.  And then talking to people who are still in this state of horror.  Between some towns that are now dealing with raw sewage spilling into their streets and then those who still have no power (waiting for that damn inspections and repair!) and also those who are living with piles of debris all around them because sanitation can't keep up with hauling it away.

And you know what?  I talk with these folks and they still say - You know, I'm still luckier than most. (because they're thinking of those that lost everything... like down to the foundation)  They say - hey.  I can replace stuff... and I can rip up the first floor and the sheet rock and toss all the stuff out in the basement and all the first floor furniture and get a new boiler, get another car - but at least the second floor is dry.  And at least I have a roof over my head.

            Still weathering on.

            •  The scale of it is just staggering. (6+ / 0-)

Keeping it in perspective would be very challenging when you're right in the middle of the worst of it. I'm glad to read that people are finding ways to cope.

Did you remember to water the fuchsia?

              •  yah... one woman (6+ / 0-)

at bed, bath and beyond was buying a set of pots.  She said her insurance person said - why do you need new pots?  Can't you just wash them out?  She explained that the floods contained not only sewage, but also diesel and battery acid among some of the other toxins.  Said no way was she gonna use those pots, no matter how they were washed!

                I don't blame her.

So she said she bought the cheapest set she could find.  People just trying to put their lives back together....

SIL is still walking to train station in Lynbrook..Said the other day since the trains are so packed, 2 people got into a fist fight, cause when one brushed the other...anyway they stopped at a station, where they could not get off and for the police to come onboard....did not get to work till 11 am, and she started out at 4 am...she had the could not flush problem right after the storm due to sewer plant problem  but has no problem now.

Alot of people after their first storm are kinda shell shocked, by the 2nd or 3rd song and dance with a storm, with your life disrupted its like eh....Also, makes you decide what is really important to you, stuff is stuff, can be replaced or fixed. you and your family are OK its all that really matters in life. Learning how to go with the curve balls mother nature throws at you helps also...

I can see exactly what she told you happening! Stress levels are augmented as soon as you step on the LIRR... And then with the shit going on, people are further stressed!

I am pretty certain one of the buses goes From Atlantic Ave to Merrick Rd? That would just be a short walk to the railroad station.  Also, i heard that Rockville Center has been generous to waive daily parking fees at the train station parking.  Check the town's website to see if that is still on.... Maybe she can drive to Rockville Center, park, and pick up the train from there? Someone at work who lives in that village told me about this... And there are more trains that stop there than Lynbrook as well.
