  •  Then what was all that moochers and looters talk? (8+ / 0-)

And let me clarify; sure, Repubs might use unemployment as a campaign slogan, but then they never do one single thing about jobs once in office. Rather, they seem to spend all their energy on trying to legislate social issues, and destroying the government.

Same thing with deficits. They don't give a damn about deficits, which is why they run them up outrageously.

All they care about is power and taxes for rich people.

Jobs? That's a word to say to the rubes to get elected.

And yeah, you're right, it was stupid of them not to hammer on it in the campaign.  Maybe they simply forgot to pretend like they care.

I am discussing more the powerful within the party, those making decisions, rather than the base. The base just listens to Fox and hate radio so that they know what to think and be enraged about.

It appeals to the fears of THE POOR that there are POORER people trying to keep them down.  How?

It might be explained this way:

"Well, cuz they're getting all the food stamps and welfare and stuff, and that's why the rest of us have lives that suck!  But we're better than all them blacks and hispanics because we work hard for a living and they don't.  In fact, we work so hard, two jobs and babysitting and sex-camming our wives and stuff, why, it's a sin that all those black people get free phones and shit!  Where's my phone?  Nobody gave me a free phone!"

I made all that up just now, but it's not very far from what many real republican voters say.

Here's a classic example of what I mean.  Craig Nelson on Glenn Beck's show, talking about how nobody ever bailed him out and not realizing what a jackass he sounded like:

"I was on welfare and food stamps.  Did anybody help me out?  NOPE!"

So Republicans are TOTALLY FINE with government services.  They just assume that it's all those OTHER people that are getting the lion share and they won't put up with it anymore!

And along come people like Rove and the Koch Brothers, ready to tap into that.

issues are all about. Pitting groups who actually have common interests against each other while taking advantage of all of them. And pretending to help some of them.

I simply think those in the power structure of the Repub party are in Marie Antoinette "let them eat cake' territory these days, where either they have forgotten or simply don't realize what is truly of importance any more. What lived reality is for most Americans.

And there's nothing in their approach that would lead them to care, other than losing elections. So then you end up with a Romney, who seemed to be running for office for no discernible reason. Really, I have no idea. He didn't believe anything. He was running simply to run. To win.

How hollow, how inhuman. How Republican. MHO.
