(I don't recall exact details) but Congess passed a law shortening the extended unemployment benefits after the last grand bargain, I believe.  At a time when it was most needed especially as long term unemployment problem was worsening, they were cutting the number of weeks allowed.

It's unconscionable and even more unconscionable to do this while spending obscene amounts of money on war and bank bailouts.

Daughter was fired for being preggers and former employer's response to her stating that was illegal was "sue me" since we are a RTW state.  Later found out others were not fired for being preggers but they were married.  Morality police hit again.

Off topic a bit but yesterday at store, guy standing around flirting with a lady, saw my daughter and new baby and started off on how teenagers were having babies and living off welfare.
My daughter accosted him and told him she was 27 years old and worked until 3 months ago and was job hunting now.  She then asked him why he was not at work and he said he was disabled

The memes and bias that have set in during the last 20-30 years are horrific.  Not that it wasn't bad before that, it was, perhaps even worse.

There is a need to demean women and they find all different ways of doing it.  Notice that the guy never even considered that maybe the father took off.  Notice that he never even considered that maybe she looked young for her age and was an emergency room RN who works nights or three twelve-hour shifts per week.

Notice that he never considered that maybe she's a stay at home mom.

And even given all of that, who is he to judge? Maybe she's a single mom looking for work, fired unfairly. Maybe she wants to stay home with that child and has some support from family helping her do that. What the hell is wrong with that?  You can't live on welfare anyway.  Another Democratic president helped to cripple that safety net program.

WTF.  Glad that your daughter responded to him.  He should mind his own f'ing business.

but it seems I did not factor into his thinking.

I note the clown, Metz, at Denny's who was going to add a surcharge because of ACA and advised customers to reduce tips to compensate for increased prices has backed off his threats.
Seems threats of a boycott earned him a call from corporate headquarters to sit down and shut up.  Kind of funny this guy is a franchisee who was crying over the problems facing independent businessmen.  Guys who buy franchises are not exactly independent
