Twi-hards are more fanatical than Bond fans.

Also, here's io9's take on the movie.

The final Twilight movie is like a porn film with action figures

I realized it about a quarter of the way into Breaking Dawn, Part 2, the fifth and final movie in the Twilight movie saga. I was watching a porn flick. I don't mean that people were getting it on in improbable ways with even more improbable amounts of stamina. I mean the stilted dialogue whose entire purpose is to introduce long, wordless sequences of carnal indulgence. The wooden acting that we are not supposed to care about because we're just in this for the money shots. But what, exactly, is the release we're waiting for? The climax, if you will?

That's the really weird part. Spoilers ahead!

    •  The Entire Story..... (8+ / 0-)

Is one big, long abstinence fantasy.

Just judging Stephenie Meyer's story on its own terms for what it is & what it wants to be...

As a character, Bella is constantly miserable & needy, requiring constant reassurance from the men in her life. And she's indecisive between two men who are willing to do anything for her. As she straddles between risking her life for a high school crush (Edward, who basically stalks her) and being anti-social, she feels sorry for herself whenever one of her boyfriends isn't around. She has no drive, and no higher goals in life

And because Bella is such a vacuous character with no agency, there's no reason for either of the two men in the story to connect emotionally to and fight over her, except only as an object to possess for the purposes of the story. Even Bella's wedding is not really about her, since she's only marrying Edward to have sex with him, and even then she has to beg him to do it.

As far as I know, "Skyfall" is the first Bond film since the 70s to open at #1 in the US. As of this weekend, it's now the top grossing Bond film (worldwide) ever.
