The Vandelay Project is hereby awarded the Vice-President's Special Bonus this quarter for their heroic 80-hour-week efforts to pull their project out of the hole and into timely delivery.
No mention is made of the fact that the Vandelay project dug the effing hole in the prior two quarters with comically stupid assumptions, estimations, and designs.

    •  Yup. Its pretty universal. In the worst cases, (5+ / 0-)

the only way to get project approval is to start with comically stupid assumptions, estimations, and designs., otherwise you are viewed as sandbagging from the get-go.

and their contempt for the Latin schools was applauded by Theodoric himself, who gratified their prejudices, or his own, by declaring that the child who had trembled at a rod would never dare to look upon a sword.

      •  A friend of (0+ / 0-)

mine is an architect (who keeps looking for my comments here, so this one's for you!) . . .

Anyway, so we have this project that requires a handicap ramp.  Someone gets the brilliant idea to design a ramp that's about 150 feet long.  I didn't know this (not being an architect nor very familiar with ADA issues), but apparently this means someone in a chair will be going quite fast when he hits the turns, and likely someone will end up thrown from the chair - just a horror show.

So he tells the "someone" that they're insane, that they will have to use a lift instead.  They don't want to pay for a lift.  He finally finds a way to get through to them (getting sued is expensive!).

Now the record will show that someone (not my friend, of course) made the brilliant decision to do the right thing after all, saving the day, making the project accessible!!  And my friend gets labeled as a noisemaker.

No one wants to listen when you point out they've fucked up.

Alternatively it will all get swept under the rug as a mistake that never came close to happening.  And who let Kevin in the meeting, anyway?

Either way no one takes a beating for being so fucking stupid.  Another success!

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. Barack Obama
