this could be said of a lot of corporations. Ethical companies that produce needed products promoting societal good while still making a profit for shareholders are probably rare enough to dance on the head of a pin. They are out there, but are few and far between.

You probably know them if you ever ate Little Debbies snack cakes.  They have a snack line and a healthy snack line, cereals, etc.

           1. Swiss Rolls
           2. Nutty Bars® Wafer Bars
           3. Oatmeal Creme Pies
           4. Fudge Brownies
           5. Honey Buns
           6. Zebra Cakes
           7. Devil Squares®
           8. Fudge Rounds
           9. Star Crunch® Cosmic® Snacks
           10. Cosmic™ Brownies

Based in TN, don't see any bakers listed on their website, but they have 7 job openings for truck drivers and engineers.

Maybe they'll think about expanding to fill the gap left by Hostess.  Be nice if they would buy one of the facilities and the equipment and re-hire the employees, maybe in an area where they distribute, but don't have a bakery base (Illinois or Iowa?)

Besides their Little Debbie line (above), they have the Sunbelt Bakery line (no preservatives), Heartland (cereals and pie crusts) and Fieldstone Bakery (cookies, granola bars, bread).

I only know about them because my boss's division up north makes some of their packaging (I think it's the Little Debbie line, but could be the Sunbelt line, too).    One of the McKee people came to a meeting in our office last year when they were re-designing their boxes.

I don't have anything to do with that division, I work in the real estate and investment division, but one of my bosses works for our manufacturing division.

A Swiss Roll + a Nutty Bar, each was 25c in 1990.  Still just 50c today.  And the smaller size from the Hostess equivalent is more sensible.

Franz bakery makes the Little Debbie products, along with some store brands and their own brands.  They make some great bread!  It's $4.50 a loaf, but that's still a little less than Dave's Killer Bread which is positively the best.

Hot out of the oven, with butter melting on a slice.
