I made a comparable wager on a political forum I frequent. I challenged one particularly delusional righty to a $1000 bet on the Obama election result. He refused to bet money, but offered instead that the loser leave the forum; an offer which i gladly accepted.

Obama of course won, and while this obnoxious righty had no choice but to admit that he lost the best, he in no way, shape, or form actually admitted personal error. it was all someone else's fault. He immediately went into denial and refused any and all calls for scrutiny and introspection (I offered to let him stay if he showed that he understands WHY his predictions were so insanely wrong).

That same righty had made similarly wrong predictions in 2008 and in 2010, and when I pointed that out to him, his response was that sure, in 2008 he was in the grips of wishful thinking, but this time it was different!
