Rupert Murdoch committed war crimes by publishing pictures of Saddam is nonsense.

The person who, even under your rubric, would have committed war crimes. were the people who had Saddam in their custody. In other words, NOT Rupert Murdoch.

    Think Abu Ghraib.

by publishing you are equally exposing prisoners of war to ridicule, If the US wishes to bring Charges, it is entirely within its rights to do so

        You are not correct.

Reread the section of  the Geneva Convention you quote to me.

Again, consider Abu Ghraib. Publishing of the pictures was not the war crime, the actions and taking of the images was.

You would not argue the NY Times committed war crimes by publishing the Abu Ghraib pictures.

By the same token, neither can News Corp be guilty of war crimes by publishing the photos of Saddam.

That the difference between the two sets of pictures was that the Saddam set were published in a way that was intended to cause ridicule, and  the Abu Ghraib pictures were, it could be argued intended to inform, and would result in an improvement of the conditions of the prisoners.

Conversely there was no justification for the publication of the Saddam pictures, the articles surrounding them were purely intended to humiliate, and so the publication would fall under the jurisdiction of the relevant sections.
