  •  I've always gotten a little misty-eyed (12+ / 0-)

over the idea that many restaurants do stay open on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas.  I can feel just how comforting it is for people who have no families, or who for some reason can't get to their families, to have a place to go where they can be welcomed and served a good meal, and maybe get to talk with someone caring, like you were.

That's what the holidays should be all about - warmth, good food, being with others, being welcomed, sharing love and friendship.

As far as Black Friday is concerned, I have NEVER participated in that particular retail madness and I never, ever will.  I don't care if they start it at noon on Thanksgiving or noon the day after.  I hate crowds, I hate the frenzy, I hate the whole philosophy behind it.  If others want to that's fine with me but I have always stayed away and will continue to do so.

Many are open on holidays and wait staffs are used to that model. Shopping on Thanksgiving night is a whole new thing that we should not encourage. Let retail workers have the ONLY non-religious holiday off to spend with their families or however they wish. Not shopping on Thanksgiving will discourage this awful practice.

I NEVER set foot in Walmart because I have lots of local options, independent bookstores, craftspeople and other holiday shopping opportunities.
