    I hiked the Grand View Trail and spent 3 days down by the river during a Spring Break Geology Field Study in college.  It was just like the pictures in the article.  We slept on 4 inches of snow at the rim and it was 95 degrees by the time we reached the Tonto Platform (that flat region just above the final gorge to the Colorado River).  The Grand Canyon is one of the most awesome natural experiences you could ever have. Get into it if you are able.
