  •  The failure to prosecute war criminals (6+ / 0-)

who ever they are if they are in our country is paramount. To do otherwise is to completely fail as a law abiding country. We have prosecuted war criminals who were in the US. The bush administration prosecuted Charles Taylor of Liberia and then congratulated itself for standing up for human rights. All while the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq was going on. And while we were torturing people.

I know this is a divisive issue but it is one we can not avoid if we are to survive as a free society. As we send drones into other countries to kill people we consider a threat we lie exposed to attacks from other countries. And we can not expect the cooperation of much of the international community. We are in serious breach of treaties and international laws. Laws we mostly wrote ourselves and applied to others. Like the Convention on Torture. I was worried about this very thing when the we refused to participate in the International Tribunal System. Because we felt that Americans would get unfairly detained. Before the fact that we torture people became widely known. And before the 9/11 attacks.

Were we keeping in mind that one day Americans would start torturing again? the idea of American being unfairly picked on by the international community was and is a sick joke.
