  •  We are already on ACA (10+ / 0-)

My wife and I are both self employed. We both have pre-existing conditions, me a heart condition and her a skin cancer that was removed 23 years ago. Our insurance costs were through the roof, to the tune of $1600 a month. And it was crappy insurance to boot. We decided to take the risk and go uninsured for six months. That is the minimum amount of time you have to be uninsured in order to immediately qualify for the ACA's Pre Existing Condition Insurance Plan. We got lucky and made it through the six months without any sort of medical problems and now we have way better insurance for a combined total of $520 a month. That's right, we're saving $1080 per month in addition to having better insurance! The plan in our area is actually administered by United Healthcare PPO and all of our doctors and area hospitals accept it. If there are others out there that may be considering what we did, i can tell you that our end result was a spectacular success. Of course as the saying goes, "your mileage may vary".
