    The SEIU workers' pickets are being honored by members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, which means the port is effectively shut down, since the longshore workers load and unload the cargo.
    My late parents taught me occasionally through the use of axioms.  One of them, and they were very adamant about it:
    Respect union workers.  Never cross a picket line.
    I've always followed that rule, even when the union was tiny and there was only one guy picketing at the front of a store.  I shop somewhere else.

    Someday I'll write a book about their life axioms.  Some of them are a little strange, though.  "When fighting a bear, follow the example of the woodsman: 'My feet done saved me!'"  Add to that the one book my parents favored when reading to me before bed:  Aesop.  I have lots of rules swimming around in my head and they've mostly kept me out of trouble.
