My first quilt was a couple of years ago, a full size pieced quilt cover for a bed in the guest room. Too ambitious for a beginner like me, LOL. I've sewed for many years, so I thought I could do it. The back was a mess, and it's so heavy, but overall, didn't turn out too bad. Made a 2nd pieced one last year, lap quilt size.

I finished this quilt recently for my grandniece's open house. She's buying my parents house, and loves cowgirl and horse themes. I decided to go simple, and just use a printed panel. I thought it was an odd width- 23", so used really  fat borders. The back had boots on a yellow background, and I cut out and sewed 4 boots from that in the corner panels. I was limited in my fabric choices, but she loves it.

Though the back of this one was a big improvement, I'm still struggling with getting and keeping the back fabric smooth. I have carpet, so tape won't hold it down. Only non-carpeted areas are in the foyer, laundry room, and kitchen, but not big enough to lay out a quilt. I've tried tables with clips, and tape. Still takes a lot of time to smooth it out. Any ideas?
