  •  it seems to want to be grounded (5+ / 0-)

it wants borders to contain it, that was my thought.

btw, my daughter is learning to quilt (piecing first) and i am going to make her read this diary and follow these steps.

    •  Yes, more borders to contain it. (5+ / 0-)

The very pale cream background (which has a print, but the cream predominates) in the stars makes it too "loose." And I think the next one needs to be pretty dark because I need to repeat the darkness of the central stars points and the lovely border stripe.

ALSO it is very very SQUARE, so I'd like to do something that offsets that a little. That really is what has me most puzzled.

And YAY for little jlms learning to quilt! That's exciting. Thanks for your confidence in my instructions. :)

my "mini-me" which cracks me up to no end.  when we first came home from china, my (now ex-) mother in law repeatedly pointed out that my daughter would never look like me.  oh well.  brown hair, brown eyes, fine with me ;-)

offsetting:  put a top and bottom border to stretch it out?  maybe the piano keys there?

do you EQ or have a sketching program?

my daughter has a goal for her school program to use MATH to plan and sew a quilt block.  i helped her make that goal.

I have three daughters from China!  I could tell you stories about how much they do, or don't, look like me.  None of them are interested in quilting, but one (who has my baby fine medium brown hair LOL) is becoming interested in making her own clothes.

Quilting is plane geometry, pure and simple.  Love it.   I use EQ, or just wing it.
