I'm not sure I'd label Murphy a 'genuine progressive'.  He's been on the talk shows a lot of late, and he certainly was talking more like a centrist on those appearances.

and be the person her ran as

he could not have run as a progressive and won in his district...he must have run as a moderate who'd listen to the people he represents.

few things I hate more in a politician than governing from a significantly different place than they ran from. aka George Bush "compassionate conservative". How my exGovernor Romney was proChoice and proGay rights moderate until he took office...

I'm a progressive myself but feel expecting him to be one if,as I guess, he did not run as one (maybe I am ignorant on this but how would he win in a concervative district if he ran as a true progressive, again?) seems not fair.

he is entitled to Blue Dog ness in order to represent a concervative district that voted for him, in my mind. He needs to win re election in only 2 yrs also.

He seems honest and sane...unlike West. I count our blessings  only.

      •  I dunno. I think the national offices, both (0+ / 0-)

Senate and House are there more to achieve goals that help their own districts or states, whether or not it represents the ideological preferences of their district or state.  If all you're going to do is 'represent' them, (ie do whatever the most people want) then we might as well abolish the voting powers of the House and Senate, and simply let them write legislation and put it to citizen popular votes, since that would represent the will of their constituents far more accurately.  Doing what's actually best for your constituents doesn't always align neatly with a given political ideology.
