As I've been reading coverage of the campaign-- specifically, how Romney ran his in articles like this, it has slowly dawned on me that this campaign was less about winning an election that it was about siphoning money from his rich donors.

You see the pattern again and again, with the campaign and the PACs and the Super PACS; with Karl Rove and his various groups. They managed to get $1B or more donated-- and a whole lot of it went to consultants and contractors and people connected to the campaign.

It didn't go for as many TV ads and what did go for ads went for over priced ones. It didn't pay for a good ground operation. It didn't buy enough mailings and key cards and other literature.

What it did do was line the pockets of Rove and people like him; people tightly connected to the Romney campaign; and-- at least possibly-- Romney, his family, and his close friends, through the contracts that were signed and the services that were bought.

I guess that's good for us. Sure helped Obama win. Doesn't seem to me to be good for Democracy or clean Politics.

Here's the thing: if I'm realizing that Romney and his buddies fleeced the Koch brothers and their allies-- well, they're probably realizing it too.

And they don't play flag football.

Meeting lots of VIPs from all over the world for the most important thing in their universe - business contacts. At least one of his sons went to Russia to 'negotiate', remember? Now they're all sons of 'Mitt Romney, US Presidential candidate and respected Statesman'.

    •  Republicans are now running campaigns the way (6+ / 0-)

they govern the country. Looting assets, bilking the hooples, and eating the seed corn, it's all they know now after 30 years bainrupting the country.

I'm investing in popcorn futures. This is just gonna be more and more fun to watch.

whenever I think of Mitty's Craptastic Campaign.

No telling How many Millions got Skimmed off the Top.

No way for the Donors to demand an Audit or a Refund.

Mitt has Always been a CON Artist.

No Sense wasting a Great CON on just the Voters when
You can Scam the Donors for Millions at the Same Time.

That's just how I described it to my dad-- that scene where Gene Wilder innocently mentions that if the play folds, you won't have to repay the investors and Zero Mostel puts his arm around Wilder's shoulders and just does his eyebrow wiggle.

It also occurred to me that the real advantage of not releasing any tax returns is it makes it harder for donors to recognize a net-worth increase due to skimming of their dollars.

      You're right!

The point of TV is to sell ads, I say, so my TV doesn't connect with programming. It streams ad-free and plays DVD's.

The purpose of TV election coverage is to rake in the money - that we donate! Stations kicked it up when it seemed in polls that Obama was so far ahead he was going away in a walk, as they say in horse racing. There's no money in that; gotta have a close race to keep the ad money flowing.
