      Christians call the Hebrew scriptures "the Old Testament" because they believe they have been superseded by the Gospels, and that any true or valid relationship the Jews claimed to have with their deity was superseded by the new Christian church.

      I have real trouble with a lot of the posts under this diary; it's a throwback to the Christian triumphalism that does share in one of the more endearing traits of the Jewish tradition -- that Jews criticize themselves in their own scriptures.

      Reading that scripture where you treat the sins of the Hebrews or Jews as their sins, and not your own, is a very different reading of those texts.  A pernicious one, in my opinion, and one of aspects of Christianity that have made them the murderous bastards they've been for most of their history.
