    The same crisp air in southwest Washington as you remember in Oregon.  We all gathered in one room of our little three-room schoolhouse.  The radio was on.  I heard the announcer say that the president had been hit in Dallas.  Hit?  What does that mean, hit?  Did someone punch him?  No, shhhh.  Just listen.  And as the news came in, we could see the faces of our teachers turn from looks of concern to expressions of emotion that we had never before seen from our teachers.  President Kennedy was dead.  And classes were dismissed.

    Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.
