  •  I was 19 coming out of a store and a woman told (5+ / 0-)

me President Kennedy had just been killed. I told the her she really ought not to spread such rumors. It wasn't until I reached work, the AZ Republic, Ad department, that it was confirmed. On the way there, though, people were either stopped in their tracks or were walking very fast so I felt something was wrong. I just didn't want to believe it.

The next five years we experienced the assassinations of quite a few people, including Dr. King, Edgar Evers, Malcolm X, Bobby Kennedy, others shot dead or crippled. It was a pretty horrible time. Only those who lived through it can truly understand what it felt like, how battered the entire nation was by it.

I never want to see anything like that again. (Please G-d.)
