    ...then this deal is worse than stupid, it's terrible and damaging.

    What the DeWine/Graham comment says is that we WILL be fighting this battle all over again.

    And yet three wingnuts get to go through to a final vote.

    What exactly did we win, aside from a stay of execution?

      The agreement specifically prohibits the nuclear option in the next 18 months. It is completely dead, which is an extremely good thing for the institutional integrity of the Senate. The Republicans signatories have committed to vote against the nuclear option if Frist brings it up again during a SC battle, which is definitely coming this year when Rehnquist retires. Democrat signatories haven't committed to anything beyond the horrible threesome. So Republicans can bitch all they want about nominees not being extreme enough. It is strictly a PR battle. If Reid can get 40 votes he still has the power to stop a bad nominee through filibuster. I'm not sure it will happen, but it could. He kept the loyalty of 37 votes through the compromise, and at the very least of the compromisers Byrd is probably a strong supporter of any filibuster that is proposed.
