or else Israel: back and forth this year. I want to go somewhere with incredible ancient history, and both definitely qualify.

However, I am just keeping my eye on the situation. There's no concern I have in Egypt for tourists unless it becomes more unstable with Morsi. Even during the Arab Spring, there was no tumult felt by tourists outside of a small slice of Cairo, from what I've read. Bluejerseymom, who posts on this site, was there then, if I remember this correctly. And as for Israel, I likewise feel no trepidation about going -- it's just a bit pricier, so I've been struggling with that since we're definitely budget-travelers.

My main issue with Egyptian tourism is that it's going to be really hot in the desert in June, and I'd really like to travel to the oasises. Sigh...

We might wind up in Morocco instead. I've been saving for this vacation for two years and working extra hours toward it.

You should keep your eye on the U.S. consulate recommendations and look for current travel reports from people. Not one tourist has even remotely been threatened through all of this; a few Israeli tourists mentioned leaving due to the unease, but not any injury. No tourists in either country have been harmed.
