    I don't think that they address this aspect of the cost, but there are studies showing how much more a boost to the local economy is provided by local businesses vs. national big box stores (not limited to Walmart, though they lead the trend in sucking up taxpayer money and local money). Local businesses circulate their profits back into the community, rather than sending it back to a national HQ. Seems obvious, but communities keep granting tax subsidies to these chains premised on them being "good" for the local economy, which they aren't.

    The degree to which our taxes must subsidize Walmart for their crappy low-wage employment is scandalous. You'd think that it's an argument that could even persuade the grassroots on the right, if not their 1% sponsors. Of course, once that message sinks in, they just might have to see how much they've been used and lied to by the people in power.
