  •  Hey, Steven! The 'BAHA' helps! (3+ / 0-)

Not as much as I hoped, but it's certainly and dramatically better than nothing!

(BAHA stands for bone-attached-hearing-aid, or bone-anchored? Can't remember which, but effect is the same)

It does not incorporate noise-canceling technology that I can tell, which would REALLY help with unwanted noise. I think it just picks up and transmits everything (well, not thoughts. Whatever mind-reading capability I have pre-dates BAHA. ::wink:: )

I still do not know the 'plan' for the right ear. The surgeon sounded very bullish on the idea of repair in Raleigh in June, but two audiologists since say the hearing loss is permanent and not surgically reversible, very different from what he said. We saw him on the 14th, day before the hearing aid was attached. For 25 seconds, after a three hour wait with my appointment. He looked at it, pronounced it healed and ready for device attachment, then was GONE. Frustrated, we made an appt. for December to do nothing but discuss the right ear. It may be we'll wind up with a conventional hearing aid on that side, do not know yet. So, some frustration remains, and questions.

But so far I consider the new device a real help, which I needed quite desperately.

Thank you for asking, my friend!
