  •  according to the Hagman episode on "Living with (5+ / 0-)

Ed", yes, Hagman's hilltop house had a ton of solar, which produced more than his home (and 44-acre farm) needed, so he provided electricity to several low-income neighbors, free, and may have fed back into the grid also. As I recall it. Actually, according to the clips I could quickly find on-line, his electric bill went from $37K (irrigation pumps mostly) to $13.

JR was probably a Republican, but that was a fictional character. On what do you base your opinion that the actor leaned Republican? Because he made a lot of money at his work? I'd agree that 25K square feet for a house for 2 people is pretty obscene, but that doesn't necessarily make him a Republican.

    •  Hagman was a registered Republican... (10+ / 0-)

... for awhile - but apparently, he was a long time Liberal Leftist at heart.

this blog post provides an interesting take:

Apparently afraid that he could risk blacklisting like his mother while portraying J.R. Ewing in the original Dallas series and basking in the popularity of the role that spawned “J.R. For President” bumper stickers throughout America, Hagman re-registered for a time as a Republican.  Later he re-joined the Peace & Freedom Party with his fame and fortune established to a point where he didn’t have to worry.

Anyway, with his death yesterday, the real Larry Hagman, the lifelong radical, will be missed by me, while others will be missing the J.R. Ewing that he really wasn’t.

(Full disclosure - I posted this same link further downthread)
