As a professional musician for the past 35+ years, this says nothing to me.  There is nothing creative or original in it.

"Creation by committee" is just sad.

I am not religious, and did NOT say I enjoyed sects.

    •  well, if it helps, trumpeter, I can (4+ / 0-)

pretty much sing Harry James blowing "Ciribiribin"  in my head,  still.  And more than a few others.

Lee Morgan blowing "Sidewinder" is an example of what I meant in the comment just above about all the "space" in the older music, in which sound had a little time to be nuanced. Miles knew something about this.   Not to mention Mick Jagger "Goin' Home"  for about 11 minutes straight,  on the AM radio with the top down blasting up Topanga Canyon in a '58 Ford with the Interceptor Special package, yeah, 1966 and gas was 26 cents, iirc.

Plus, I think there is something new here in the implicit fusion of visual and music, joined at birth, or even at conception, each feeding off the other to present content.  I'm willing to believe some of the commenters here who point out that this is social commentary with a progressive tilt, intelligible to the younger folks who have grown up immersed in electronic culture.

there is something in it for some folks.

But for me, it's just ... boring, distilled down to its purest form, with a touch of the essence of derivative added.

Morgan was a genius, and everything he played was him.  So much of the modern stuff reflects no individual sensibility to these old ears.

Yeah, I can dig that the Beatles got the same reaction from those who thought that Pat Boone was 'daring', but I gotta be honest about what I hear.

liked it,  just that I could appreciate its social context.

        •  Some find what you do boring, but that doesn't (0+ / 0-)

...make them better than you. Sad to say that you sound bitter that times have changed.

Unless you speak Korean, you aren't hearing everything.
