    theologically, in christianity. some fundies have fixated on that part to the exclusion of pretty much everything else, but there is a lot more to the religion than its salvationary aspects.

    christmas - at least the celebration of the birth of the savior in a mean and humble manner, at the margins of respectable society - is actually just as central to the message of the gospels as the resurrection, the theological details of which early christian groups contested anyways.

    granted, the way we celebrate christmas owes as much to yule and saturnalia as anything in the gospels, but it isn't theologically meaningless.
