    I grew up in the era before the internet or cell phones and it was like the Dark Ages by comparison. Information was pretty much limited to libraries.

    All of the problems you described are more the fault of moving from an agrarian to an urban and now suburban society than technology.

    If anything, technology has brought us closer together, world-wide.

      I have to disagree with you.

      I'm 64 years old, and I've never experienced anything like what we are encountering today.

      We were always able to work through our problems face to face. We didn't need to hide behind the anonymity of the individual Internet.

      The future is just a concept we use to avoid living today

        And I agree the divisions are wider than they have been before in my lifetime. But I don't blame technology for that. As with any issues there are multiple causes, but long before technology I would list significant contributors to the problem as:
        1. The end of the draft
        2. Cable TV
        3. Changes in public education and the increase in magnets, charters and home schooling
