  •  I don't think it's all that uncommon in the "third (6+ / 0-)

    world" nations.  I'm trying to think of other examples but I do know that, generically, it's very common for unpaid troops to link up with rebel forces.  Sometimes we call them mercenaries, sometimes they link up with opposition forces and it becomes a civil war.

    I'll probably think of examples as soon as I hit "post." ;p

      Lots of stuff happens after I hit post! Mostly, I notice typos for the first time.

      But you're right. There are a lot of places where you have groups that are trying to exert power over one another -- and if they're both armed, it gets ugly in a hurry.

      Breathe in. Breathe out. Forget this, and attaining enlightenment will be the least of your problems.
