  •  One more thing: (33+ / 0-)

Even in the event of a metastatic recurrence, which reduces the likelihood of a "complete cure" to near zero, it is often functionally inaccurate to refer to the person in question as "dying of breast cancer".

My mom lived for 16 years with recurred and metastatic breast cancer; for most of that time, her disease was held in check very effectively with hormone-suppressant drugs and occasional rounds of localized radiation therapy. During that period her quality of life was excellent, and it never crossed my mind to describe her as "dying of breast cancer", though technically I suppose that was true.

This is offered in the spirit of shared knowledge and education; I'm not trying to beat you over the head for your choice of words. BTW, I've recently become a breast cancer survivor too.

    •  Well, we're all dying from the day we're born. (0+ / 0-)

(Or from the day we're conceived according to certain people.)

Whether we can put a name to it or not.  Once you begin living, you're on the way to dying.
