    I'll never forget that my boss - having hired me (as a Ph.D.) in a temp technician job at half the salary I should have been making, offered me a job extension - at half pay.

    1/3 less then the grad student stipends here at UM.

    Needless to say, I told him I'd be better off unemployed and searching full time for a better job, and there was no way I could live in Ann Arbor on that.  Later on I was offered a job extension by HIS boss at full salary.  No raise, but it beat the last offer.

    And that's how wage deflation happens, boys and girls!  The "shortage" of STEM people is an utter, total myth.
