Recency is a bad litmus test for relevance.

Also, the CSM article doesn't source the quote in question, it just says, "according to reports from the Secret Service", with no links. (At least the claims in the two articles are corroborated by a book we can all go look up as a source)

Incidentally, the CSM article reads a bit apologetically in certain parts:

In all cases, the threats did not meet the legal standard of a “true threat,” and no charges were filed. But in all three, the comments led to employment termination.
Anyhow, I reiterate that relevance isn't tied to time.  Plenty of things written long ago still ring true today.

    •  Well, you're treating these two pieces as news. (5+ / 0-)

They are not current. The more current info I cite, above, says that threats against the president are not necessarily more frequent than they were against Bush, contrary to what you write and cite in your diary.

      Accuracy matters.

They are more frequent if you look during elections. As per your article.

Also, the whole Bush --> Obama thing is just fraught. Both gained hatred from the electorate but for very different reasons. Was Bush the most hated President of all time? In my world, I didn't know one person who approved of the guy.

linked at the beginning of this diary had no sources for its claims. Then, the diarist added sources, both of which are more than three years old.

So while I have no doubt that Barack Obama gets plenty of threats, the piece I cite from two days ago notes that outside of election years, the president gets about the same number of death threats that Bush did, sometimes less.

        •  My opinion is Shrub survived because of VP Cheney. (0+ / 0-)

Shrub was an awful President, but the thought of 'ol Dick as the actual President was too awful even for assassins to deal with.

A real test of whether right-wing haters are looking at skin color or policies would be to remind them that Biden is much more a tough liberal activist than Obama - where would his assassination get them them & what do they really care about?

Something that doesn't make good sense, makes bad sense. That means someone is being deliberately hurtful & selfish. Look for motives behind actions & words.
