Very big deal for water in California in the late '70s.

There's a very cool working model of the San Francisco Bay area that was built for the Army Corps of Engineers that is now refurbished and open to the public in Sausaulito. It was used to model various cockamamie water schemes of the 1950's onward to see what would happen if you say, put a dam in San Francisco Bay (a real proposal, once upon a time), back in the days before computers were available to do the modeling.

Back in the 60's, there were plans made for dams and tunnels all over California, to capture and funnel the water from the north to the south. Those plans are still sitting on shelves, often with a great deal of engineering work already done.

Fry, don't be a hero! It's not covered by our health plan!

It does ring a bell, though.  Maybe t.v.'s Van Amburg and/or Jerry Jensen talked about it. . .I was certainly old enough by the late '70s to be aware of such issues.

The model of the SF Bay area sounds very interesting indeed - maybe when I visit over the holidays I'll suggest a field trip!
