  •  Here's why the US cannot intervene militarily (1+ / 0-)

I just think people would learn a lot if they just read the Obama administration's policy documents on international relations and security.

They explain exactly why the US intervened in Libya but cannot yet intervene in Syria.

    It's incredibly simple.

The Obama administration has re-committed the US to the international doctrine of collective security - the theory that underlies the creation of the United Nations.

Military action under collective security must be approved unanimously by member nations through their representatives on the Security Council.

All members of the Security Council voted either to approve action against Gaddafi or they abstained allowing the UN Security Council resolution authorizing force to be approved.

The UN Security Council has not approved action against Syria and there seems little hope in the short term that they will.  That's because Russia and China are opposed to action against Syria.

The US under the Obama administration simply will not flout the principles of UN collective security.

If you are angry about the situation in Syria you should direct your anger and activism at Russia and China. Their changing their vote is the only way that there will be direct military action against the Assad regime.

Syrian opposition from receiving MANPADS from say Turkey or Qatar. He is doing this on his own and this is a US policy that lead to the death of these children.

They were killed both by the weapons Assad sent and the defensive weapons Obama blocked. Both actions were necessary before they could be slaughtered as they have been.
