      MB didn't write it. It is from Harper's magazine.

      It would be an investigation into hiring practices where a group will send a woman and a man with identical backgrounds, education, experience, etc., on job interviews, and what you see is the discrepancy between what women are offered for a salary and what men are offered. The university was basically busted offering a woman who was equally qualified considerably less money than the man.

      Why indeed.

        where the researchers created a cv/resume for a fictional person and asked scientists (both male and female) what salary they would offer the person for a hypothetical position in their lab.  Sometimes the name was male, sometimes female but otherwise the document was always the same.

        Both male and female researchers, on average, named a higher salary if the name was male.

        This has gotten a lot of attention in scientific circles.
