    America does have high speed trains, it's called the Acela Express.  

    The trainset is comparable to high speed trains found in Europe and Asia. The problem with Acela is not that we don't have high speed trains, but the rails and infrastructure the trains utilize is old. Thus the Acela rarely reaches top speed.

    Using that picture is slightly disingenuous. One of America's problems is that governments have always been more willing to spend on new things, like a new road, or a shiny new train.  However, America always underfunds the maintenance of the infrastructure.

    Part of the slow recovery from Sandy is due to the fact that America's largest city and metro area relies on transportation infrastructure that is 80-120 years old.
