  •  Our problems are in our numbers (2+ / 0-)

There are 7 billion people on earth on the way to becoming 9 billion.

We have some serious issues.  Whenever people get to thinking deeply about them, it seems we may have something on our hands that might mean the survival of every one of us.

We have begun to develop an ability to communicate in an interactive way, which is absolutely critical to gaining any ground whatsoever against our problems.

I see a few people on FaceBook using the limitations of that medium to innovate in the use of political dialogue.  It is pretty frustrating in how limited it us.  But it is in its infancy.

I don't recall people using FaceBook in 2008 in that way, so it is a new development.  There were uses of the internet in 2008 that weren't there in 2004, and in that year we saw things we hadn't seen in 2000.

The first time I ever had an experience with a candidate web site was in 1993.  That was not that long ago.  At that time, in Austin, Tx, you couldn't expect to reach a significant percentage of voters through email.  Ten years later, I was sharing spreadsheet files with volunteers in precincts.

This whole development has been rapid.  Yeah, people get all caught up in their existence in silos and can't see the whole big picture.  But that has always been true.  The fact that this is more observable is new.

I think we need to use every available means to constantly try new ways of connecting with others and engaging on what is really important.

I think the diarist insists on seeing the glass half empty, when water is still coming into it.

hope that the idiots who have no constructive and creative solutions but only look to tear down will not win the day.
