    1) Is being GLBT (or even GLB) a recognized status under hate crime legislation in Alabama?  I'm not liking my odds on this one but maybe one day the legislature was feeling generous.

    2) It is WAY too early for all charges to be filed against all possible defendants.  In a felony situation, it can take weeks or, in difficult or high-profile cases, months, before a defendant knows all of the charges he will be facing.  But today is way, way, way too early for that process to be done with.  The initial charge just gets the defendant into cuffs and before a magistrate, serving as a sort of informal "placeholder" to allow bail to be set and to begin of the pre-trial things that the courts, prosecutors and defense attorneys have to do.

    3) I'm sort of curious - what federal crimes do you allege that local officials broke?  I'd actually like to hear this one because, unless a "local official" was one of the ones beating on this poor woman, I think you're on very thin ice here.
