    Tony Perkins wrote the entire 2012 GOP platform.

    Bryan J. Fischer is pretty much a kingmaker now in the GOP conservative base, taking the place of Jerry Falwell, who thankfully is finally dead.

    Scott Lively's "teachings and activism" are why marriage equality is illegal in 32 states.

    Just because you, or the average mainline Christian hasn't heard about them, does not mean they do not have extraordinary significant political influence. They do, and as others and the diarist have noted, they can't exactly do what they want here. That is why they're in Africa. They ARE leaders, and they DO have more influence than you clearly are aware of. I would recommend checking out Jeff Sharlet's work, for starters, and educating yourself, and then everyone else. These are the people who are why mainline Protestantism is in significant decline. That you regard them as fringe works entirely to their benefit. It's how they started steeplejacking in the first place.
